Upper Eyelid Hollowing

Before and after upper lid treatments to address the Aframe and other hollowed areas and make the lid line parallel to the lash line.

Treatments can be performed to address the hollowing in the upper eyelid that people get as they age. As we age, we lose volume, including bone and soft tissue. The eyes become more hollow and deeper set.

We are able to reverse these signs of ageing, giving a younger and fresher and more feminine appearance.

Upper Eyelid Hollowing case study

We have a woman who was starting to get some hollowing in the upper, inner corner of her eyes, making them appear more deep set and skeletonlike.

For optimal beauty, the lid line should be parallel to the lashline ie the white line below.

Please read the captions of the images below, which describe how face design of the upper lid to improve the appearance.

Upper Eyelid Hollowing & A-Frame Concerns

Refining the upper eyelid area can create a brighter, more open and more harmonious appearance to the eyes. As we age, natural changes in bone, soft tissue and fat pads can lead to hollowing in the upper lid and inner corner. This may cause the lid crease to appear higher, deeper set or angled in a way that changes the expression of the eye.

At The Manse Clinic, we assess each patient’s upper-lid anatomy with precision to design a plan that restores balance, symmetry and proportion. Treatment is approached conservatively and tailored to the natural shape of the eye.

Why the Upper Eyelid Changes

Age-related changes can include:

• Volume reduction in the upper eyelid
• Deepening of the inner upper lid
• Loss of support in the brow–lid junction
• A more angled or “A-frame” appearance
• Greater visibility of the orbital contour
• Increased asymmetry between the eyes

These changes can subtly transform the overall appearance of the eye area.

Our Design Approach

From an aesthetic perspective, many people find the eye appears more refreshed when the upper lid line runs parallel to the lash line. During assessment, your practitioner maps the existing lid contour and compares it to the intended parallel line to guide treatment planning.

This design process is important for achieving symmetry, refinement and a natural result.

How Skincare Can Support the Upper Eyelid Area

Daily skincare can complement in-clinic eyelid rejuvenation by helping the skin appear smoother, brighter and more hydrated. One option many patients enjoy is Dr Naomi Skin Catfish, a blurring eye cream formulated to support the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. It creates a smoother-looking finish around the eyes and can be worn comfortably under makeup.

Catfish contains a blend of hydrating and brightening ingredients designed to help the under-eye area look refreshed and more even in tone. While skincare cannot replace in-clinic treatment, it can help maintain surface brightness and overall skin quality between appointments.

FAQ

What causes upper eyelid hollowing?

Upper eyelid hollowing can develop as part of natural ageing due to changes in bone, fat pads and soft tissue support.

What is the A frame appearance?

It occurs when the upper lid contour angles inward toward the inner corner instead of running parallel to the lash line.

Can asymmetry be improved?

In many cases, personalised treatment plans can help refine asymmetry.

How long do results last?

Longevity varies depending on anatomy, lifestyle and the treatment plan.

Is treatment suitable for everyone?

Suitability is determined during your consultation after assessing your eyelid shape, brow support and overall facial balance.
