Threadlift

The doctors at our Sydney clinic have offered threadlifts for over a decade, and have had experience with many of the subtypes, including Aptos, Silhouette, Promoitalia and PDO. We offer multiple options for  threadlifting at our Sydney clinic including PDOs and long threadlifts.

What is a threadlift? Please explain the process? How does it work?

A thread lift is a minimally invasive non surgical procedure which is aimed at both lifting and tightening the skin of the face and neck. Long threads can be made from Polylactic Acid (PLA) which is a widely utilised compound in surgical applications. The “thread” is actually a PLA monofilament on which small bi-directional cones are placed which act as tissue anchors under the skin.

What can a threadlift achieve for patients?

Threadlifts are  best described as a “two-phase” lift. The initial lift in the skin is achieved through the traction of the threads and provides immediate results in elevating the tissues. The second phase results from a process called neocollagenesis, where the thread is slowly dissolved by your body and replaced with a healthy dose of collagen. This collagen acts initially to secure the thread in place and then over time replace collagen volume and definition to the facial tissue.

What patients are suitable and will benefit from this procedure?

As we age our skin progressively loses collagen. Threadlifts are best utilised when you start to notice the signs that this is occurring. This may be dropping in the brow, cheeks and jowls. You may also notice deepening of the lines around the mouth and nose which are all able to be addressed as part of this procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure will take anywhere between 45 minutes to over an hour, depending on the number of threads you are having.

Do the threads dissolve?

Yes

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure is almost invariably very well tolerated. It is only necessary to use local anaesthetic at the entry and exits points for the thread. Most patients are surprised about how comfortable the procedure is.

What areas of the face neck and body are these threads suitable for?

This type of thread lift is ideal for those who are looking for a natural and long lasting result. The thread technique targets ‘vectors’ or lines of tension. Using this principle, these threads can have a significant effect on problems areas such as the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jowling, jaw line definition, cheek and brow height to name a few.

What are the risks associated with this procedure? Is it safe?

There are always risks with any cosmetic medical procedure. The risks with thread lifts are common to many procedures but include complications such as swelling, bruising, infection nerve and vessel damage. It is very important that you are aware of the risks and of the pre and post care activities that can limit your chance of having one of these complications. For this reason, it is important that you book in for an assessment and consultation with your Doctor at least a week prior to going ahead with the treatment

What is the downtime associated with this procedure?

Down time varies with the number of threads and chosen treatment area. We like all our patients to have tape applied for the first few days in order to sustain the initial lift while your bodies inflammatory response “anchors” the thread in to place.

Can you compare these threads to any other threadlifting techniques.

This system works by targeting specific vectors or lines of tension. In this way we can address specific areas of concern by pulling the tissue in a controlled and targeted direction

What are some good complimentary treatments to have with threadlifting?

This is a good question! We will often take a synergistic approach using filler and muscle relaxers prior to thread lifting. This of course is entirely dependant on the patients preferred outcome and the treatment areas that are being addressed.

Obviously the browlifting procedure is popular. Which other areas are popular? Is it good for the neck.

Yes brow lifts are a popular and effective treatment. Other popular areas include the nasolabial folds and the jowls to restore definition to the jawline.  Neck lifts are also an effective treatment that can really help address the loose skin that occurs in this area.

Is it safe to have other procedures after the threadlift. eg is it ok to have fillers, lasers, Pelleve etc?

Laser and light based treatments are very safe following this type of treatment. We generally don’t recommend these on the same day and would be cautious with respect to having ablative laser treatments within 2 weeks prior. It is best to get your fillers done before your threadlift.

What is the price of the long threadlift procedure?

This is dependant on the number of threads and the treatment effect that you are looking for.

How long will the procedure last? Or I do find that a much better question is “when will patients want their next threadlift after their first threadlift?

Results will generally last between  1-2 years.

What do you like about the procedure?

I really like the instant results and the ability to target and lift in a specific way. I also like the fact that there is a long term benefit to the skin quality and tension due to the collagen stimulation from these types of threads. In this way it is a gift that keeps on giving!

What is the patient satisfaction level with this procedure?

Patient satisfaction is very high. We put this down to expectation management and patient selection. Thread lifting is a great way to get that natural lift but its not a face lift and if we think you need one as opposed to the other, we will let you know
