A long term complication of muscle relaxing injections is muscle atrophy ie because the muscle is not being used it shrinks (atrophies).
Patients in general love this complication because it will mean that will notice that they seem to get better longevity from their antiwrinkle injections.
There are some areas where we would consider treating muscle wasting from antiwrinkle injections
- The Glabellar Area: If this area flattens then dermal filler may be used to treat this problem
- The Orbicularis Area: This area loses significant volume with aging and antiwrinkle treatment may exacerbate this if the muscle gets thinned. Treatment is dermal filler
