As the chest / decolletage ages, the following main changes will occur:
- Pigmentation / sun damage
- Redness sun damage
- Aging of Skin
- Chest / decolletage wrinkles
So the chest / dec first needs to be assessed to work out which changes are most important to treat.
Pigmentation / sun damage
As we age, especially those with lighter skin tones, we get more sun damage on our necks. We get more freckles, solar lentigos and background actinic damage.
These problems are best treated with laser / IPL to improve mainly the colour, but also the texture
Prevention of these problems is important, with sun avoidance and sunscreen. This can be challenging in the Australian climate
Redness
This should be treated with laser or IPL at a vascular setting
Chest skin aging
Chest / decolletage skin goes through the normal process of skin aging, where the skin thins and becomes less elastic. The texture becomes less smooth, with more fine lines and wrinkles. These issues may be treated with skin boosters, PRP or with fractional laser.
Home care with cosmeceuticals is also important for treatment of the decolletage
Chest / Decolletage Wrinkles
Chest / decolletage wrinkles really bother some patients. They often occur during sleeping (in patients who don’t sleep on their back) and can be worse on waking.
These chest wrinkles may be treated with fractional laser, skin boosters, dermal fillers and PRP
Bony Chest
Aging can cause a bony appearance to the chest. This can be treated with skin boosters / dermal fillers to soften the appearance
