Forever young BBL

Forever Young BBL is our most favourite way to delay ageing in a “natural” way without injectables.

Delaying skin ageing and maintaining healthy skin are important goals for beauty achievers.

Sciton BBL

BBL is a proven method to dramatically improve the appearance of ageing skin.

It is useful for the following issues

  • hyperpigmentation
  • fine lines
  • wrinkles
  • age spots
  • uneven pigmentation
  • textural changes
  • laxity

The original “Fotofacial” BBL procedure treats the face or body area and requires 3-5 treatments every 3-6 weeks.

This procedure is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures in the US. in 2012, nearly 1,700,000 BBL -type sessions were performed.

Forever Young BBL

Forever Young BBL has all of the advantages of the original procedure with the newly recognised benefit of DELAYING SKIN AGEING. Because sun damage and photo ageing effects are less pronounced in those with darker skin tones, the benefits to them was previously overlooked. Treatments with pulse light with darker skin tone is more challenging due to risks of complications than those with lighter skin tones.

Ageing in darker skin tones is reflected in texture, tone, laxity and other other factors, which can now be helped using Forever Young BBL

BBL Research

Long term BBL

A recent study (1) showed that regular treatments of BBL 2-4 times per years appeared to delay the visible signs of skin ageing including

  • age spots
  • wrinkles
  • laxity

In this study, 15 patients (38-69 year olds) received at least one annual BBL for 5-11 years. The evaluators estimated the median post treatment age to be 45. This age estimate was statistically unchanged from the actual median pre-treatment age of 46, even though those in the study had aged a median of 9 years throughout the duration of the study. So the patients in oth pre and post treatment photos appeared to be the same age even though the post treatment photos were taken an average of nine years later.

Gene Expression Rejuvenation

A second BBL study (2) supports the antiaging effects of BBL and offers and explanation for the clinical results. The author collaborated with Stanford University dermatology Dept to show that BBL treatments have a restorative effect at the genetic level. The gene expression of Forever Young BBL “treated aged” and ‘untreated aged” skin was compared to that of young skin. Of the 2265 genes whose expression was altered in aged skin, 1293 were fully restored to the expression seen in younger skin. After 3 BBL treatments, the re-expressed genes included those associated with longevity and increased life.

Corrective technology

BBL, which was previously only a “corrective” treatment for aged or damaged skin for the following issues, which include

  • photo-ageing
  • vascular and pigmented lesions
  • erythema (redness) and flushing
  • scars
  • acne

Photorejuvenation

BBL is a type of “photorejuvenation”. Photorejuvenation is a broad descriptive term for anything that improves or reverses photoaging. ie removing sun damage and improving the appearance of aged skin.

Often “photorejuvenation” is referring to treatment with an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Device.

At The Manse, we have the best IPL on the market, which is Sciton BBL. There are multiple wavelengths available, but the most commonly used ones for photorejuvenation are the 515 wavelength, which targets pigment, and the 560 wavelength, which targets redness and capillaries in the skin.

If a patient comes in requesting “photorejuvenation”, then we will first assess their face, looking for what is the actual issue, eg:

  1. Wrinkles
  2. Redness and capillaries
  3. Pigmentation, brown spots, freckles and sun damage
  4. Folds
  5. Volume loss

If the skin has any brown or red discolourations on it, then photorejuvenation will give an excellent results. Please see pages on freckle removal (which will include sun damage removal also).

Cost of IPL / BBL photorejuvenation

Full face photorejuvenation brown only $680 per treatment, 2 treatments required 2-4 weeks apart
