Hand Rejuvenation

Hand Ageing

Hand rejuvenation is a popular treatment at our Sydney clinic

Ageing of the Hands has 3 main issues

  1. Volume loss
  2. Sun damage
  3. Hand skin ageing

Volume loss

Hand ageing becomes obvious by the early 30s because we start to lose volume. Volume loss causes hands to appear less young and plump. Hands lose their youthful smooth contour and veins become more obvious.

Hand volume loss can be treated by volume replacement with dermal fillers or biostimulators.

Sun Damage

Those who live in Australia, and who have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-II have a very high risk for sun damage on their hands. Brown spots, freckles and background sun damage can usually be seen in sun damaged areas.

The pigmented areas can be treated with skin creams and IPL and laser

Skin Ageing

The hand skin becomes thin and crepey with age. It also loses its elastic “return” when you pinch it.

Hand rejuvenation can be achieved by skin treatments.

Prevention of Hand Ageing

Sun avoidance is important in preventing hand ageing, therefore sunscreen should be used on the hands whenever it is applied to the face.

Dermal fillers or biostimulators are the most important treatment for hand rejuvenation because they are vital to treat the volume loss.

Often immediately after 1 treatment of filler injection into the hands, the result is very obvious. The amount of filler required to achieve optimal results is variable due to varying amounts of volume loss, and also patient preference. Treatment should be performed every 1-2 years, depending on which product is used.

IPL / Laser for Hands

To remove the brown spots on the hands for hand rejuvenation, IPL or laser is required. For raised brown spots, like old age warts, a different device will be required.

Often initially, 2 treatments are required for best results, and the treatment should be performed every 1-2 years.
